EXPOSED: Sandy Onor Abandons Wike, Pitch Tent With Atiku

Ahead of the March 11, 2023 governorship election, the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Sen. Sandy Onor has abandoned his political godfather and benefactor, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and has now pitched his political tent with the presidential candidate of his party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Governor Wike who lost out during the 2022 PDP presidential primaries to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar openly attacked his political party and requested the PDP to obey the zoning formula that recognizes other regions in the country. The Rivers state governor had argued that since the presidential ticket has been snatched by a northerner, the position of the national chairman should naturally go to the Southern part of the country as contained in the constitution of the party.

He had also threatened that himself and his supporters across the country will not support the presidential candidate of his party unless the injustice is corrected.

Sandy Onor, a close ally of the Rivers state governor who has continued to enjo6 massive political and financial support from governor promptly aligned with the position of Mr. Wike and distanced himself from all political activities of the presidential committee.

Sen. Onor and his loyalists also boycotted two important events staged by the PDP presidential committee led by a former governor of the state, Liyel Imoke including the visit of governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the PDP Vice Presidential candidate.

But in a twist of event, it appears Sen. Sandy Onor is now tired of the anti PDP antics of his benefactor as he is rumoured to be having a hit romance with many of Atiku’s supporters in the state.

Apart from the ginats billboards in the city center this reporter has observed, where Sandy and Atiku photographs is printed side by side, reliable sources within Sandy Onor’s camp who confided in us said “the truth is that Sandy himself and all of us are tired of this whole thing. There is no way it can work. How is it possible that we will not work for the presidential candidate and we are seeking their support. All that we wanted was to get enough of Rivers State money, but Oga has realized that money alone will not give us victory, we need the support of everyone “ said the source who did not want to be mentioned.

Our investigation also revealed that Sandy Onor has been sending several prominent members of his campaign team and supporters to plead with Sen. Liyel Imoke for support, promising in-turn to support the presidential candidate against the wish of his godfather, Nyesom Wike.

To confirm his seriousness, the PDP Guber candidate deployed one of two of his trusted allies, the PDP senatorial candidate, Ntufam Ekpo Okon and Hon. Eta Mbora, a two term house of representatives member to meet with the leadership of the Atiku camp in the state.

The duo who were cited at a pro Atiku event recently in the state in company of Sen. Gershom Bassey and Liyel Imoke were also heard repeatedly chanting the Atiku/Okowa slogan in direct contradiction of governor Wike’s directives.

Another source close to the caterpillar movement quoted Sen. Sandy Onor as saying “ that was why I picked my deputy Emana Duke from that camp, so that when we get to this kind of bridge I can borrow her own canoe and Cross it. This is politics, you cannot put all your eggs in one basket. If they (Atiku camp) are ready for us, we are ready for them. We will do everything it takes to support ourselves “.

In December last year, governor Wike had promised to announce publicly the candidate of his choice, although the Rivers state governor is yet to make that announcement, it is obvious that his longtime friend and political son, Sandy Onor is running out of patience and time to wait for him and has decided to remove his tent from him and support the presidential candidate of his party in return for a vote from the Atiku’s camp
